Welcome to The Kids' Cookery School.

The Kids' Cookery School's mission is to give every child in the UK a unique and fun cooking experience in order to help them make informed choices about food and an understanding around health and diet.

Started in 2000, the charity has worked with over 136,000 children, young people and families across London, many of whom may have severe physical and learning disabilities, behavioural problems or been excluded from mainstream education.

Update: we are moving premise and we have loads of FREE equipment to give away!

Dear KCS Parents/Carers and Supporters

It is with great sadness that we write to advise you that we are having to give up our KCS Head Quarters here in Acton.

There are several reasons that have influenced, in part, this decision, but the primary reason is due to the Corona virus pandemic, the charity has really struggled over the past 18 months and the various lock-downs have just compounded the problems not only with The Kids Cookery School but with the charity sector in general. There are a number of other issues that I won’t bore you with which, basically makes the premises not fit for purpose anymore and the health and safety of our children and young people is paramount!

So the big decision had to be taken to terminate our contract and take advantage of the break clause in our lease. I know this will be a shock for many of you as The Kids Cookery School has had its’ HQ in Acton for over 22 years, but things have changed and we just can’t afford to continue operating here.

Our last day at the School will be 28th September 2021. However, from now until that date we will be opening our doors to any organisations or individuals, whom might like to take some of our kitchen equipment, appliances, cookery books and general bits and bobs, that need new homes. This would be FREE of charge but a donation of any size would be greatly appreciated.  I have attached some of the items we have available: Pots, Pans, Cutlery, bowls, plates, cups, mugs, Sharpe knives, serving spoons, wooden spoons, cutlery trays, baking trays, spatulas (variety of different materials and sizes), baking equipment (of all variety’s), baking decorations, corers, peelers, pastry brushes, Measuring jugs, timers, sieves, potato mashers, whisks, graters, pizza cutters, chopping boards (lots of different sizes), baking trays, orange squeezer, magic mixers, pasta making machine, pasta making racks, 1 bread making machine and lots more equipment that needs to go!

If you are interested in popping in to see what we have to give away then please let us know, we will be in the office Monday – Friday 10am-2pm for collections. We are based right by Acton town station: 107 Gunnersbury Lane, W3 8HQ

The Charity will continue to operate but only as a Mobile POP-UP Kitchen with our KCS Mobile Van and kitchen units. Our website and email will remain the same and will still be working after we vacate the premises.

After over 25 years as the founder and CEO of The Kids Cookery School it is a very sad time, having taught over 150,000 children, young people and families how to prepare and cook healthy fresh food from scratch and hopefully make a difference to many families and household regarding eating well and staying fit and healthy.

However, all good things must come to an end and we are seeing our move as the next chapter, with open minds and arms to what will happen next!

I would like to thank everyone for their help, love and support over the years, without all of you, KCS would not be the unique Charity it is today.

So it is not Goodbye it is just “Lets see what happens next”...

Take care, be safe and we wish you all a very happy and healthy Autumn.

Fiona and Tristan

Our CEO/Founder Fiona Hamilton-Fairley, has been awarded an MBE!

Fiona founded KCS in 1995, when she began to teach children in her own home when she realised that her own children would not learn how to prepare and cook good fresh food from scratch at primary school.  Fiona is a passionate, chef, cookery teacher and food campaigner.  She believes that every individual needs to be able to prepare and cook fresh food for themselves in order to eat well and live a happy and healthy lifestyle.  Fiona lives by the motto ‘you are what you eat and drink’.

On the 7 June 2019, Fiona was awarded an MBE on the Queens’ Birthday Honours List, for Services to children with Special Needs and disabilities.
